Concrete Rib and Block Slabs

Our core products are our concrete rib and block slabs, (sometimes called the pre-cast lattice rib and block system). The lattice girder is essential to bond with your concrete topping. Reinforcing from 1Y10 up to 3Y16 to be casted accordingly, depending on lattice beam spans. PJ Projects can manufacture ribs of up to 13m long. The lattice girder forms a substantial key with the insitu topping. The rib’s unique shape is supported by the reinforcing steel to suit the loading. Our design has revolutionised the manufacturing of reinforced concrete slabs.

Our concrete rib and block slabs are the best products on the market today. They have a unique design and are perfect for self-installation. This picture shows an example of our concrete rib and block slab (150mm x 50mm). Would you like to know more? Benefits of the Concrete Rib and Block Slabs

The Pre-cast Concrete Rib and Block Slabs have several distinctive features that offer benefits over other rib and block and more conventional methods of construction. These are:

1. Eliminates the Need for Conventional Decking Systems
Because the ribs and blocks for complete deck into which the concrete poured, the ribs merely require temporary support until the concrete has gained strength. Propping centres will vary from case to case and will be specified by the Engineer.

2. Why reduce the conventional reinforcing?
The lattice provides a rigid steel truss like structure, which, when cast into the concrete enables the rib to withstand handling loads and support the weight of the hollow blocks, construction loads. It also contributes towards the tensile reinforcement required in the completed slab and provides an excellent shear key between the pre-cast rib and concrete.

3. Reduced Volume of Insitu Concrete
Because the hollow concrete block replaces a substantial volume of insitu concrete leading to a significant reduction in the dead load supported by the structure sub sequential cost savings made by the consequent reduction in size of other elements such as the beams, columns and foundations.

4. Ease of Installation and Reduced Construction Time
Due to the simplicity of the system, it can be swiftly installed on site using less skilled labour than is needed for more conventional slab constructions. The use of ordinary pre-cast ribs means that the ribs are always straight, simplifying the installation of the beams and the placing of the blocks in between. As the lattice girder adds stiffness and handling facilities to the beam. Time for installation of the system will reduce.

5. Design Benefits
The ribs are purpose made under strictly controlled factory conditions, eliminating potential problems of one size fits all situations. Large variety of cast-in reinforcing combinations allows for economical design.

Rib and Block Slabs Fact Sheet

The installation of rib and block slabs is easy, and saves time and money.

We work with qualified registered engineers with years of experience in the field of rib and block.

Cost-effective

Our rib and block slabs are much more economical than solid slabs. They use less concrete, so they weigh less.

Precast ribs are cost-effective because steel is already cast into the ribs, with protruding girders. This ensures you get a solid slab effect at the end, but with less work and cost.

Easy installation

Rib and block slabs are the easiest slab systems to install and most builders understand the concept without any problems. They can be installed by unskilled labour.

PJ Projects has already cast the steel into the ribs, so they only need to be placed. The same goes for our quality concrete block that we manufacture ourselves.

After the slab is cast, outside walls can be built within 5 days. All temporary supports can be removed after 14 days, and then inside walls can be built. (Temporary support should stay in place under beams for 3 weeks.)

Concrete blocks can be plastered beneath, but polystyrene blocks can’t be plastered very effectively, so suspended ceilings are preferred.

Extremely strong

PJ Projects use 30mpa ready mix to cast our ribs to make sure we always supply a strong quality product to our customers. We test ribs and blocks to make sure we keep to our high standard for which we are known for in the industry.

Easier to manage plumbing and electrical components

Our system also makes it much easier to manage plumbing and electrical fittings for the build.

The price will differ for concrete blocks vs polystyrene blocks, and the cost is also influenced by the size of the project.
